In 2007 an accident was reported at a medium size sawmill. A machine operator was killed while cleaning a machine. The guarding on the machine and the signage around the area are under question as to their effectiveness. Dr. Rankin performed an on-site inspection in 2008 and developed the most likely schedule of events. He combined this with OSHA regulations to provide information to the attorney for the case.

In 2007 an accident was reported at a woodworking plant in Washington State. A machine operator was running a machine and attempted to clear a stale or jam. During this process the operator was removing a broken piece of wood. When the operator pulled the hand back the cutting tool removed a finger. Dr. Rankin made a site inspection in 2008 and investigation and was able to determine the actual schedule of events. His report was able to clearly indicate that the operator’s testimony was incorrect and that the operator was at fault for the accident due to removing guards without authorization. Using Dr. Rankin’s report the defendant was able to settle the case without a trial.

In 2008, Dr. Rankin was acquired to investigate potential patent infringements concerning a specific radial arm saw modification. Dr. Rankin’s investigation was completed and this information was used to determine future potential litigation action.
